What I’m Watching

Cilla Said

If you’re having trouble tracking down the lazy girl in your life, you’d do well to check the couch, or anywhere Netflix can be streamed. We spend a lot of time with Netflix, and yes we’ve probably already seen it.

So, I figured I’d put my many hours of viewing to good use, and let you know what I’m currently watching, if you’re on the hunt for a new show.

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars came back on the menu this week, although strangely hard to uncover on my own (seriously, I had to search for it). It only seems like five minutes ago that we saw the end of season 6 – which was very much a season of two halves – but the girls are back once again to do battle with ‘A’.

The first episode is all we’ve been given for now (boo!), but the season looks set to be full of the shows signature twists and turns and the new timeline gains authenticity as things in Rosewood begin to settle into their usual rhythm.

Orange Is The New Black

If you’re only just hearing about it (because you just landed from the moon) the new series of Orange Is the New Black dropped last week; falling like water on a parched dessert. It seems like years since the last season, which was epic, hit our screens and if you’re anything like me, I’m sure this new season was something you’ve been looking forward to for a while.

I blasted through it in a few days, and was absolutely in bits when I accidentally watched the last episode, without realising it was the last episode (rookie mistake). I loved every second. I won’t give away any spoilers, nobody wants that linch mob at their door, but I will say that some issues were tackled that I was proud to see handles so well, and with such care.

As ever with OITNB my emotions were brought to the surface by every single episode and whether I was being made to laugh or cry, I was being made to think – and I think that’s what’s so important about cultural shows like these. They make you think, they show you spaces you may never have seen, and people you may never have met and that can only be a good thing.

Being Human

So this is relatively new to Netflix, but not to the world; as the supernatural theme might suggest. Whilst at university, and too lazy (and poor) to hook myself up with a TV License, this show aired on BBC3 – probably just after Twilight took over the world – and I never caught more than a few episodes. It turns out they made 6 seasons of the show, and they’ve all recently been made available on Netflix.

I’m not through the entire show yet, but it’s well worth a watch. It features a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf who all live together and are trying their hands, or paws as the case may be, at ‘being human’. It asks a lot of questions about what it actually is to be human and where we draw the line and features some really fantastic British actors. It takes a while to get going, but once there it’s pretty nonstop and should keep you nicely hooked.

If you’re watching something the world needs to know about, let me know – I’m always on the lookout for new shows to get obsessed with and new worlds to enter. I’d love to hear your recommendations.

  1. I'm more Netflix & Ill than Netflix & Chill right now but I think I'm gonna have to get back into PLL! As for OITNB, I binged the whole new season in a few days, so so good! Being Human however ice heard is good before but never given a go. I guess now it has the availability to stream non stop I might have to get started!

  2. That is exactly what swung it for me with Being Human Rebecca - and as far as easy watching goes, it was well worth it. I did the same with OITNB and then had a fit of conscience thinking about how long it took to create vs how quickly I consumed it!

Let me know if you have any tips for my next binge and hope you return to Netflix & chill soon!
